~Exclusive~ Grove House Ghost Tour
|
"My friends and I went for my birthday and caught 2 different voices on my digital recorder! In the underground area behind the pool, I felt something, then had a cold chill and the hair on my arms stood up. This tour is the BEST IN ASHEVILLE!!!" -Amy Packer

The Grove House comes alive with music and dancing at night as the spirits of its colorful past awaken.
|
History: Built as the Central YWCA, the building was completed in 1924, and holds a
wealth of women’s history. The swimming pool, emptied and used for storage now, saw
the first integrated swimming in the area in 1963. It is in that pool that employees and
visitors have observed the spirit of a young boy. Sad and misunderstood; he is prone to
temper tantrums on occasion! Other spirits include a larger than life Native American, a
solemn woman in a long white dress, a man who has commandeered the old upstairs
dressing room, and the possible imprint of a long forgotten crime.
Newfound School moved to the building from 1970-1977, then it was sold and a nightclub
and restaurant opened. Now, 11 Grove Street plays host to four clubs that are hopping
on weekends. Many have witnessed the spirits who take up residence or simply pass
through. A large opening, hidden in the bowels of the house, seems to offer the perfect
gateway for traveling apparitions. Attempts to nail the opening shut through the years
were continually unsuccessful. Now, it is left uncovered, and the welcome mat is out.
The ghosts who wander the halls, lurk on stairways, and beckon visitors through doors,
know no strangers. Grove House has a spirit of its own that has been shaped by all who
have passed through. It is a meeting place for those who are of this world and those who
are not. Come and experience the history and the hauntings of the house on Grove. It is
a place like no other, and is waiting to welcome you!
Grove House Ghost Tours take 75-90 minutes and do involve walking up and down stairs.
Children are welcomed, but it is not recommended for children under 10. Some parts of the building are extremely dark!
Adults: $18 Children (14 & under): $10
