Speaker, Tour Guide, Storyteller
Brenda Seright Williams
"Sometimes when you open the door to the past,
what you confront is your destiny."
— Diane Setterfield
If stories come to you, care for them.
And learn to give them away where they are
needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more
than food to stay alive.
—Barry Lopez, in Crow and Weasel
Brenda believes that the study of those who came before can inspire us to stretch our own
limits and stories can lead us to make meaningful inner change. She also sees how seemingly
insignificant experiences can instigate powerful realizations if we really pay attention. It is the
blending of these themes and a gift of connecting with people that fuels her passion for
storytelling.

Herstory Asheville was created to tell the tales of women from the city's past and present.
Other tours now offered include About Biltmore Village, Grove House Ghost Tour, and Women
of the River Arts District (coming soon).

For over twenty years Brenda has written of her thoughts and experiences for several
publications and has a monthly column in Sophie Magazine. A book,
Asheville: Then & Now, will
be released in 2011 by Arcadia Publishing.

Brenda is available as a speaker to tell the stories of the people and places of Asheville's past,
as a tour guide to show and tell some of the city's history that you might not find elsewhere,
and as a storyteller for special events and schools. She is a member of the National
Storytelling Network and was named one of 2010's Women of Influence by the YWCA.
